“On a physiological level – the use of all those little proprioceptive muscles ensures you get a truly complete mind/body experience. Try it – you’ll love it!” – Elaine D.
Last year I took my first indoor SUP-inspired yoga class at Vitality Yoga in Uxbridge. I had not done any other yoga classes and was nervous that I wasn’t going to be able to do the class let alone finish it. I was hooked – the class was incredible. Julie has this way of teaching that just makes you feel your best – she is calming, encouraging and challenges you to your personal limits. Every karmaSUPtra class is new and exciting and allows you to explore things you probably didn’t know your body was capable of doing. Not only has Julie fuelled my new love for SUP Yoga but she has also opened my eyes to other yoga practices. I can’t say enough positive things about karmaSUPtra, Julie, and all of the staff at Vitality – if you haven’t checked out a class you truly don’t know what you are missing.Lindsay G.
I discovered paddle boarding a few years ago. I was recovering from an injury and was looking for a non-impact sport. I’ve always loved board sports and add water=true love. The thing about paddle boarding is the diversity. You can go out on that calm, glass water and get close to nature, surf the waves on a windy day, navigate white water on a river OR do yoga on it! Last winter, scrolling on Facebook, dreaming of getting back on the water, I saw an ad for Vitality Yoga and Lifestyle Boutique. They were offering indoor paddle board yoga! It felt like fate. I could combine my two favourite things and do it inside while the weather was still crummy! The thing I love the most about taking my yoga practice onto a karmaSUPtra board is that to maintain your focus and balance you really need to breathe! You can actually feel your muscles contracting around your bones to keep you in position. Most important to me, in dealing with a long-term injury, is it allows me to feel my body’s imbalances. Your body is so used to compensating and protecting an area, that even on a regular yoga mat you might not be engaging that weak area. I can accurately tell where I’m weaker and to keep your balance on the board you have to use those muscles. I’m really enjoying the new karmaSUPtra Boards. They provide such a similar feeling to being on an actual paddle board. The length, width and movement on the rails (edges) is very much what you would experience on the water. Add in the wonderful and beautiful Julie Thayer as your teacher and you are set! I have never felt more welcome and safe in a yoga practice then with her. You leave feeling stronger and remembering all you are thankful for.Cassia D.
karmaSUPtra is just too fun to be kept a secret (people pay big bucks for chemicals to feel this way!). Adding the dimension of the gentle rocking that rather beautifully mimics being on a paddle board and yet provides the safety of being only centimeters from the floor has brought a whole new lightness and playfulness to my yoga practice. I cannot stop smiling! The enhancement of feeling so grounded and centered after an hour of yoga on board is the best. On a physiological level – the use of all those little proprioceptive muscles ensures you get a truly complete mind/body experience. Try it – you’ll love it!!Elaine D.
I wanted to thank you Julie, and just begin by saying “WOW!” I would have never dreamed of taking on a SUP-yoga class, but knowing you would be the instructor, I was game to give this karmaSUPtra thing my all! I cannot put into words how incredible this is and how absolutely phenomenal I feel after each class. When practicing yoga on a board, which simulates being on the water, you are, without even realizing it, strengthening your core. Your core muscles must stay engaged during this entire practice, or simply put, you will fall off! In addition to this being an “awesome core workout”, there are many different muscles that are constantly being relied upon as you shift from pose to pose. You must work very hard to stay balanced on your board. I find myself consciously engaging these muscles automatically now when I return to my regular mat practice. It definitely improves your everyday practice and makes it that much more rewarding and satisfying. Your professionalism more than exceeds my expectations! The way you share this practice with the class is so clear and easily understood. Yet, if there is a question you always have an educated answer supported by your vast knowledge of this playful sport. This is one of the coolest things I have ever done. I would be more than confident in recommending this class to anyone! KUDOS to you Julie for creating such an amazing program and with great gratitude, thank you for your time and energy in sharing it with me!Tracey W.
